Remembering Awysum Cyncere Harris
To meet Awysum Cyncere Harris was to encounter love in its, purest form. He portrayed a love that radiated through his gentle spirit, unwavering respect for other, and unlimited kindness. Just his presence alone, could lift the heaviest of hearts. A jolly giant with a heart of gold, Awysum carried an infectious smile so bright it could pierce through any darkness, leaving warmth and light in its wake. Early Years and Milestones To know young Awysum was to know a boy who lived life at full volume—both in size and spirit. As a kid, he had a deep love for cartoons. He was active in football, basketball, and baseball. Although, football captured his heart, it was more than a sport to him. He mentioned it was his dream, his passion and overall, his calling. As he grew, Awysum blossomed into a young man who embodied strength, character, and charisma. He was one that still had to be disciplined from time to time, but overall, with encouragement and involvement from his family, Awysum grew into a great young, disciplined man. He brought laughter, pride, and love into every room and always found joy in the game, whether on the football field or the basketball court. Awysum moved through life touching lives effortlessly—not by demanding attention, but simply by being his authentic, loving self. His charm was undeniable, his energy unforgettable, and his perseverance truly inspiring. A Rising Star Born and raised in North Courtland, Alabama to Olita Sharay Harris and Melvon Ingram II. Awysum spent much of his childhood in the close-knit community before moving to Decatur. He graduated from Austin High School in 2020, where he excelled both academically and athletically. As a senior linebacker, he recorded 105 tackles and 14 tackles for loss—an impressive record that earned him scholarship offers from multiple schools. Awysum ultimately chose Alabama State University over offers such as UAB, Jacksonville State, Chattanooga, Eastern Kentucky, and Southeast Missouri State. At ASU, he continued to shine—not only as an athlete, but as a loyal friend, devoted teammate, and loving son and brother. He was well on his way to fulfilling the dream he had carried since childhood. Family, Faith, and Character Awysum was deeply shaped by the loving influences around him. He looked up to his older brother, Asa, and followed in his footsteps in football, baseball, and basketball. Their bond was one of the strength and motivation, that constantly pushed Awysum to grow and strive for greatness. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Melvon Ingram Sr., Velvet Harris, and Clifford Glenn Mason—elders who instilled in him wisdom, values, and life lessons he carried every day. From his father, Melvon Ingram II, he learned the craft of carpentry, along with integrity, discipline, and hard work. His mother, Olita Sharay Harris, taught him to aim higher than academics alone, pushing him to pursue his passions with grace, compassion, and responsibility. His grandmother, Mary Ingram instilled Christianity into him, while also lovingly filling his heart and stomach with the home cooked meals he absolutely adored. A Legacy That Lives On Though Awysum’s time with us was heartbreakingly short, his legacy will still live on through the lives he has touched, his teammates he inspired and the family who loved him more than words can express. He leaves behind a powerful trail of kindness, strength, love, and light. For all who knew him, Awysum's memory is a lasting gift. His life reminds us to live fully, love deeply, and lead with the same humility, laughter, and strength that he embodied every single day. Rest easy, “Cync.” Your light still shines—and it always will.
